Fitting out London's finest buildings
This award-winning masterpiece of sustainable design created organic pathways to connect occupants with nature.
Our fit-out of the EBRD HQ in Canary Wharf pushed innovation and craftsmanship to new limits. The bank was committed to a net zero carbon fit-out that prioritised circularity – the future re-use of as many materials as possible. To achieve this, we needed to design and create furniture, fittings, panelling and other items that were, as far as possible, demountable and reconfigurable. This allows items to be redeployed or even reinstated in other buildings. We also had to use materials that were recyclable and were responsible for minimal formaldehyde emissions. Achieving these targets involved completely rethinking how we design and build items, as well as pushing us to use highly sustainable materials in completely new ways.
The interior was designed by architects Perkins&Will to connect occupants with nature and we used many natural materials and many trees and plants to create organic pathways through the building. Creating a modern, luxurious oval board table was a major technical challenge, because of its curved sides and other intricate elements. We opted for an engineered 3D veneer from Dresden-based specialists Danzer which embraces the table’s slopes and curves. The overall project achieved an EPC A-rating and BREEAM Outstanding certification and was also the national winner for the British Council for Offices Innovation Award.
