When the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers commissioned an extensive redevelopment of the historic Leathersellers’ Hall, only the finest quality and craftsmanship would suffice. This once-in-a-lifetime project soon became one of the most complex and stunning we had ever worked on, with our joinery now featuring throughout the entire Hall.
With nearly 600 years of history to celebrate, every element of this project combines time-honoured craftsmanship with modern design. The contemporary spiral staircase is lined with custom leather, hand-dyed in Chesterfield. The Court, updated with sleek, wall-to-wall, American walnut panelling, features the Company’s centuries-old Royal Charters, preserved in glass vitrines. The effect? The ancient craft of leather-making and its enduring relevance are honoured in every room.
For such an exquisite project, every detail had to be carefully considered, crafted, and executed. Leather panels were dyed an exact shade of green to match existing pieces in the corridor. Every bespoke leather door handle and finger plate was fashioned to celebrate the Company while serving a purpose. Panels of high gloss, crackle lacquer and horsehair in the Reception Hall create subtle, yet remarkable, texture. And in this guise, Leathersellers’ Hall can continue to serve the Company into the future.
