As a company we are always looking for greener products and innovative ways to reduce our environmental impact, working with our supply chain to keep abreast of viable options and technologies. These include the very latest in low VOC paints and lacquers or water- based alternatives. With this in mind, our professional spray shop team, led by manager Tony Connor, have been proactively researching ways to become more sustainable in our use of solvents.
Solvents contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which contribute to lower-level ozone formation and in recent years both the United States and Europe have imposed stricter restrictions to try and reduce toxic emissions.
Thanks to Tony and the team’s perseverance, we have recently installed a UK designed and engineered, solvent recycling unit. It heats and distils dirty gunwash, separating it into recycled clear solvent that can be used again, and non-hazardous solid waste.
Not only have we diminished our environmental impact with an average reduction in VOCs of 22kg per 25 litres, but we have lowered the health & safety risk, thanks to less onsite stored waste. What’s more, it saves money, as the solvent recovery content is up to 98%, meaning we need to purchase less substance.
It’s a win-win scenario; for the environment, for us and for clients who are looking for greener solutions.
