Fitting out London's finest buildings

Celebrating 25 years

Quality has always been our focus and as we celebrate 25 years of business, it still is. Our roots were in joinery and although it’s still a core part of our business, we’ve evolved into a multi-service business. We work with some of the best architects, interior designers, and construction firms, to give clients a bespoke, high-end finish. We’ve adapted as the industry has changed, and we’ve always tried to be considerate to the environment and the communities in which we work. Here are some highlights from our story so far.

1994

Steve Brown and Paul Carroll found Brown & Carroll London Ltd, having worked together previously at T B Parker & Sons. When the business started it had just 5 members of staff.

1996

£1M turnover achieved. We move to Unit 6 Robert Way, Wickford, Essex. The company is growing and we take the step to introduce mobile phones. Not quite a smart phone yet though.

1999

CAD drawing is introduced across the business.

2000

We acquire Unit 5 Robert Way.

2002

A landmark moment for us as we work on our first fit out; the KPMG office at Canada Square, with ISG.

2003

Steve Perkins joins company board as a director and the business now has 50 employees. The profits are also increasing as we reach £5M turnover.

2004 – We hire our first apprentice, Aaron Withers, who is still with us today.

This year, we also received Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C002962) certification. We were one of the first at a time when sourcing timber from sustainable forests was far from easy.

2005

Our turnover reaches £10M.

2007

We acquire 16 Robert Way and open a London satellite office so we can meet production demands and service our growing number of London clients.

The wellbeing of our staff is important, so we launch our Ride to Work Scheme.

2008

We have capability to do veneering in-house for the first time, which gives us greater control over quality.

We achieve Carbon Neutral Status accreditation, ISO 14001: 2004 environmental, and BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 Health & Safety accreditations.

2009

We work with Mace and Land Securities on Wilton Plaza in London, our first residential fit out.

2010

After a £3 million investment, our 50,000sq ft sustainable factory opened in Honeywood Road Basildon, and we've continued to boost its eco-credentials ever since.

2011

We worked with ISG on the fit out of Gordon Ramsey’s Bread Street Kitchen. It was our first restaurant project.

We also achieved preferred supplier status with Overbury.

2012

A 25,000sq ft extension is completed giving us a 2 acre site.

2013

Our turnover reaches £20M and we complete the fit out for Shell at Canary Wharf.

2014

We begin our tree planting scheme with Time4Trees. As a business that uses and relies on a natural resource, we wanted to put something back. Abberton Reservoir was the first of 8 sites and we still donate trees to them now.

WELL Certification for buildings was introduced.

Three new Iveco vans are added to our ever-growing fleet. These custom-built vans are powered by eco-friendly, Euro 6 Emission standard engines. Plus, built-in air suspension ensures our products arrive unscathed and intact.

2015

We worked on the fit out of the Athlete’s Village in Stratford, London. The biggest project we’ve worked on to date. Our sixty-strong team converted 600 units into stunning residential apartments.

Our workforce now includes 100 full-time employees..

2016

We collaborated with Martin Brudnizki Design Studio to create and install all the specialist joinery at Sexy Fish. It really began our move into the destination restaurant industry.

Work began on Centre Point. The 35-storey landmark was the tallest project we’ve worked on. And we were awarded the LL Trade Contractor of the Year.

2017

We are named as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer and our turnover breaks through £40M.

Work began at Annabel’s, the private member’s club often visited by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, to name a few. Our work extended across 17 incredible rooms, featuring the finest materials from across the world – from hand-etched Italian glass to de Gournay wallpaper hand-painted in China.

Bloomberg’s new London office opens, which was a huge project for us. It went on to be named the UK’s best new office by the British Council for Offices.

2018

The Queen officially opens Schroder’s new London Headquarters. In terms of scale and prestige, this project rates as one of our finest to date. We were responsible for the entire joinery fit out.

2019

We celebrate 25 years of business. We now have 135 employees and our workforce remains our greatest asset.

We’re awarded a Considerate Construction Scheme award for a collaboration with Overbury. Scoring 47 / 50, it was the highest mark achieved on an ultra site.

To date, we’ve supplied over 30,000 trees and hedgerow plants as part of our tree planting scheme.
