After firing up the bike’s engine he headed to Bishop’s Stortford, where over 180 other riders were beginning to assemble. The reason? To take part in this year’s Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.
The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride is an event that takes place on the same day in hundreds of locations across the world. There are 61 rides in the UK alone. The idea behind it is to dress dapper, show off your classic or vintage style motorcycle, and raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer research. This year, the Bishop’s Stortford ride was in support of Movember.
Men’s mental health is a cause very close to Eddie’s heart. He is as passionate about it as he is about motorcycles. He has put huge amounts of work into customising his own bike, finding it therapeutic as well as rewarding. Little wonder that he was the Bishop’s Stortford event’s top fundraiser – so far he’s raised £1,431.
The event itself was great fun. “It’s not about speed,” Eddie says. “It’s about going slow, socialising with fellow riders and engaging with the public. It was amazing to see how many people of all ages had come to watch the ride, and it was moving to see them clap and cheer. I was blown away by the support.”
When asked if he’d be taking part in 2025, Eddie said, “I’ll be doing it every year as long as I’m still riding. It’s so important to help people get a better understanding of men’s mental health. Too many men die for preventable reasons and I want to do what I can to stop that.”
Well done Eddie. Everyone at Brown & Carroll is proud of you. Maybe next year some more of the team will come along for the ride.
